Spy Games I (2003)

The game reached its two-hour limit soon after. I made my way to a nearby bar for the post-game entertainment, but once I sat down at a table I remembered that I had left my backpack in a locker at the Koffler building. Doh! Not only that, Kowalski had left his backpack in the same locker, and I was the only one with a key… Fortunately, I was able to hunt him down, and we returned together to the Koffler, only to find that some security-minded fool had decided that locking the doors at 6:15 on a Saturday night was a good idea. Undaunted, we searched for a "secondary entrance," found one quickly enough, and were able to retrieve our belongings. See, those are useful skills, kids! We then returned with our precious stuff to the bar.

Now, I don't know if you're familiar with Norse mythology, and more precisely with what "Valhalla" is. Basically, after a mortal warrior of renown dies in battle, he is carried by the Walkyries to Odin's palace, the Halls of Valhalla, where all great warriors are assembled by the gods. They fight all day long to hone their skills and, at night, feast and rejoice in the Halls with the gods.

As I stepped in, that was the feeling I got: that I had entered the Halls of UE. It's difficult to comprehend for the outsider, but basically, urban exploration is not a matter you can just toss into any conversation. People don't understand how places with so much dirt can be even remotely attractive to a rational human being. Likewise, "Hey babe, wanna see a solid-concrete silo?" isn't too good a pickup line. So to find myself in a cozy room, with good food, refreshing drinks, and a crowd of interesting like-minded people, it was almost like Heaven itself. We shared many stories and anecdotes, such as Wanderlust's capture earlier (fear the elevators!). All in all, a good time was had by all, plus we all got free copies of Infiltration #20! Thanks Ninj!
